Try
Out the New Audio Collection at the Library!
Listening to books on tape or CD is a great way to enjoy books!
You can listen to professionals read with different voices and accents
along with music and special audio effects. Audiobooks are also
great because you can listen while you do something else, like riding
in the car or cleaning the house. They can be a family activity
that everyone enjoys. Some people have different learning styles
or disabilities that make audiobooks a better way to learn and enjoy
literature. A book is included with the novels and picture books
so students can read along and improve their vocabulary and comprehension.
Audiobooks are another way for students to get excited about reading
and to enter the world of a book.
The
Westgate Library now has an audio collection for check out. There
are over sixty audio kits that come in a hanging bag and include
the book in print. Most of them are picture books and novels, but
there are also a few nonfiction books, poetry, and songs. Audio
kits are expensive, so all the students are being trained in how
to take care of them so they will last a long time. So come check
out our new audio collection and see what treasures you can find.
Thank
you to the Friends of the Library
Westgate library raised nearly $200 at "Friends of the Library"
book donation opportunity during conference week. Thank you to everyone
who participated!
Congratulations
Poster Contest Winners!
Many
third graders mixed their love of art and books and participated
in the City of Edmonds Best Book Poster Contest. Wonderful posters
were created by all the students and Westgate is represented by
seven students in this city-wide contest. Owen Brawner, Sadi Petterson,
Kyle Gaul, Jolene Appleton, Larissa Cochran, and Emily Dietzel won
the Outstanding Award. Savannah Tam won an Honorable Mention. All
these students' posters are being displayed at the Frances Anderson
Center at 700 Main Street until the beginning of December. The students
and their families are also invited to a reception on November 17th.
The posters of all the participating students will be displayed
in the hall at Westgate. Please take the time to visit the Frances
Anderson Center this month and see the winning posters!
The
Library is Looking for Volunteers
If you are interested in helping out in the Westgate
Library, please stop by the library and talk to Teresa Wittmann
or Cari McGrath. There are many things volunteers do to help the
library program be as successful as possible, such as assisting
with classes, shelving resources, book processing, and special projects.
These volunteer opportunities can be flexible (whenever you have
time), at a specific time each week, or just for special helpers
with the primary grade library classes. Stop by and talk to us anytime!
