Principal's Corner
Dear Westgate Families,
I am
Rob Baumgartner and this is my second year here at Westgate, and
my ninth with the Edmonds School District. I would like to take
this opportunity to share a bit about myself.
I spent
my formative years, and then some, in St. Louis, Missouri. In my
family and community, a high value was placed on service. I headed
to college armed with a solid academic background and drive to help
others. I began studying English at the University of Missouri.
I had the opportunity to do some tutoring in elementary schools,
and after some serious reflection, I added education to my studies.
I began
my career in education in St. Louis, teaching grades four and five.
In 1999, I moved to the Seattle area intending to begin graduate
school. I decided to postpone these plans and was fortunate to land
a position teaching sixth grade at Beverly Elementary. I thoroughly
enjoyed my time in the classroom. Working so closely with students
on a daily basis in the classroom has definitely been a highlight
in my career.
I did
make my way back to graduate school where I studied educational
administration. I began my administrative career as an assistant
principal at College Place Middle School. I spent three years at
CPM and while I certainly enjoyed my time there, my heart is definitely
in elementary. I was so pleased to be offered the position of principal
at Westgate Elementary.
I could
not ask for a better school to lead. Westgate is fortunate to have
a wonderful staff, supportive families and, best of all, brilliant
students. Everyone has the same goal in mind, to make this an outstanding
place for students to learn and grow.
Our
first year together was wonderful and I look forward to many more.
Warmly,
Rob
Baumgartner
