Top Ten Tips for Surfing the Internet

The Internet is an amazing resource and a powerful tool with endless possibilities.  Here are some important factors to consider when using the Internet.  Listed below are some tips to use when go on line. 

1.  Never, NEVER give out your full name, address or phone number to anyone online.

2.  Do not give out your parents' names either.

3.  Never, NEVER agree to meet online friends face-to face without asking permission from your parents first. 

4.  Be aware that people may not always be who they appear to be.  Someone who claims to be a 8-year-old boy could actually be a 45-     year-old adult.

5.  Never, NEVER send photos of yourself to anyone online without your parent's permission.

6.  If anyone is sending you email or chat requests that make you feel uncomfortable, log off and tell your parents or teacher. 

7.  Treat strangers on the Internet the same way you would treat strangers on the street.

8.  If you use more than one password for online activities, write them down and keep them in an easy-to-find place, but do not give
     them out.

9.  Never click on pop-up adds claiming you have won something free such as computers.  Close these pop-up adds immediately.

10.If you accidentally come to an inappropriate website, minimize the window and notify a teacher or parent immediately.
