Ideas for credit projects / ways to do your 50 minutes per week are below.

I've come up with some ideas in various areas below. Of course, if you have your own ideas, great! Just run them by me first.

____Attend cultural events and write your impressions of what you saw, learned, found interesting or unusual, etc. (English OK) (If you could also bring in pictures/artifacts from the event that would be great!)

 

____Watch movies from / about the culture and report about what you saw.

 

____Do a research report on a cultural aspect, such as a holiday.

 

____Write a report about food, art, music &/or pastimes.

 

____ Do a report about a famous Hispanic person.

 

____Interview a Hispanic person about his/her culture, and write a report about it or video-tape it.

 

____Learn a traditional Hispanic dance (Salsa, Tango, Flamenco, folk dances, etc.)  (NOT the Macarena! )

 

 

____Learn to play/sing some traditional songs in Spanish (2-3).

 

____Research what music is popular in South America/Spain now. Who are the top groups? What does their music sound like? Bring in your research and some music clips (if possible).

 

____Make some Hispanic food for your family/class. Write up how it went for you, and have people give you a review on how it turned out.

 

____Listen to Spanish music on-line at Batanga.com. Click the type of music you want to listen to on the left of the screen. Suggestion: listen to a minimum of four different types of music and at least 10 songs (total) and write your impressions about each type of music. (List the types you listened to, the songs names, the singers names, and rate each song on a scale of 1-10 and give reasons for your score.)

 

____Listen to a Spanish music station (like el Sol 1630 AM). Write your impressions of your experience.

 

 

 

 

 

 

(Please note for all writing assignments: You must do the work, not a translation site. Of course you can look up a word now and then, but not the majority. If you do this, I WILL know and I won't accept your project.) Beginning students: For the most part, you will write in English. Just try to use as much Spanish as you can.

 

____Find an e-pal that speaks Spanish OR a classmate & write him/her e-mails. (You MUST get your parents’ permission to do this!) Bring in copies of your e-mails-for academic projects you'll need quite a few based on your Spanish level.

 

____ Send e-cards in Spanish to your family members or friends.Bring in copies of your e-mails-for academic projects you'll need quite a few based on your Spanish level.

 

____Keep a journal in Spanish (above and beyond your class’ journal if your class has one). Please note: I MUST be able to read the contents, so don't write anything in there you don't want read!

 

____Write an essay in Spanish.

 

____Write an article in Spanish.

 

____Write a story in Spanish.

 

____Write a skit / play in Spanish.

 

____Write some poems in Spanish.

 

____Write a speech in Spanish.

 

____Do some translation work -songs, jokes, stories, etc. (Please note: You must do the work, not a translation site.)

 

____Write your opinion of something in Spanish.

 

 

Reading

Proof: Write down how many/what stories you read you read, how long each one was, and what happened in the stories (English OK). You might also want to add what you learned, what you were able to understand, &/or what you had questions about.

 

____Read on-line stories in Spanish or Spanish & English.

____Read novels.

 

____Read articles.

 

____Read at home.

 

____Read your classroom magazines. You may also choose to do the activities in the magazine.

 

For legacy projects, you are going down in history! Make sure you put your name & the school year on your work/donation!

____ Make a song for future classes to use.

 

____Make tests.

 

____Make games - board games or internet games.

 

____Make flashcards for the class.

 

____Make new vocabulary posters for the class and decorate them!

 

____Make a Power Point presentation to explain a certain concept in Spanish.

 

____Research websites related to Spanish. For your favorites, list the link and a description of what they’re about for posting on the class website.

 

____Make a Spanish vocabulary book.

 

 

____Donate / make a Hispanic decoration to add to the class.

 

____Donate / make a book in Spanish to add to the class library.

 

____Donate /make a CD to add to the class collection.

 

____Write a letter to future classes about how to succeed in Spanish, why you enjoyed the class, etc.

 

____Write a letter to your teacher reflecting on your experiences in this class with her.

 

 

 

Connection with another subject areas

 

____Math (Spanish words for math functions, numbers in Spanish, a math project in Spanish, etc.)

 

____English (poem styles, grammar, etc.)

 

____History (comparison of a Hispanic country’s history with ours, etc.)

 

____Science (words for Biology vocab., etc.)

 

____Sign language-learn the Spanish for the signs you know.

____ Make a movie about something that has to do with Spanish (in Spanish or English depending on your topic.)

____Do some on-line chatting in Spanish (only with your parents’ permission, of course!) I MUST get a script of all of your chatting, so save it often & don't write anything you don't want me to read!

 

 

____Make some computer games about Spanish.

 

____Make a Spanish Power Point presentation.

 

____Go to studyspanish.com and study the lessons you wish to and take the quizzes you wish to. For academic projects depending on level, you will need to take quite a few-ask me.

 

____Sign up at donquijote.org for Spanish lessons to be sent to your e-mail. Do the lessons & print them out. (You MUST have your parents’ permission for this.)

 

____Research websites related to Spanish. For your favorites, list the link and a description of what they’re about for posting on the class website.

____Do an art project/craft relating to Hispanic culture, such as making a piñata or an Ojo de Dios.

____Draw or paint something relating to Spanish, such as a desert landscape or a flamenco dancer.

 

____Research a famous Hispanic artist / architect and write a report about him/her. Make sure to include pictures of some of his/her creations.

 

____Related to the above, draw or paint something in the style of a famous Latino artist.

____ Research a famous Hispanic film/actor and write your findings.

____Make new vocab./ grammar posters for the class.
