F We met Jack Prelutsky (9/8/40)on tape and the Web. We started the 36 Poems Project with Prelutsky poetry style. Met Jon Scieszka (rhymes with Fresca) (9/9/54) through the Web. Practiced science process skills by looking at works of art. 4th grade - 1 fiction genre, 1 nonfiction genre, 1 choice for September for a "3".  3rd grade = 1 fiction, 1 nonfiction for a "3"

  We are thinking about "names" - our own and others. We are working on StoryPath in social studies. F New vocabulary: philanthropist entrepreneur. Looked at web video of making Hershey's chocolate. Hershey was self-taught. F We learned about "sampling"in surveys and analyzed the vegetable graph. We heard that  Roald Dahl hated school.  FWe began Thursday math . To celebrate  Tomie dePaola's birthday we looked at his work and listened to some of his autobiography. Caio! We practiced process skills by observing, sorting, and measuring shells. We practiced ordered pairs using our own names to  make art

  Mrs. Johnston was our guest teacher; Ms. Moline was at a meeting to get more ideas on technology! We wrote Apology poems after reading William Carlos Williams. FMr. Ryan talked to us about Rights and Responsibilities. We met for Reading Workshop and talked about Reading is Thinking. We found Learning Partners. We had an hour for work completion.   FWe turned in our presentation versions of Apology Poems and started "I Am From" poems. We chose our Native American characters PTa Fundraising Assembly

   FWe started the Apple Weights project, using balance scales. Our question is "How much of an apple is water and how can we find out?"

 

FWe are practicing visualizing in Reading Workshop. FSocial Studies lots of fun right now! Making our character "dolls". We are learning and using the idea of SCALE.  We had an awesome  fire drill! Did you know that in any group of 23 or more, there is a 50-50 chance that two will have the same birthday! It worked in our room double and triplefold!  FFinishing Apple Weights and noticing which apples lose water (weight) the most. Friday Art has us doing Paper Samplers and Picasso faces. We had fuzzy time today.
