Week of Sept. 26,  2005

                      Sept. 26

xToday, for our starter we did an ice cream cone problem. The problem was to

show how many different ways can a 3 dip ice cream cone be made with 3

possible flavors of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.  I think the answer was

            28 possible ways.  Shina

xThe question on the attendance graph was who is your favorite

muppet?   Kermit won. Kermit got 11 votes and that's 47% of the class. Kyla

x Today in  social studies we made our Native American dolls of the character

we chose. First we had to figure out what size  then we drew on tagboard paper.

Finally, we cut it out and put felt and yarn on our dolls. Kiana

xSeptember 24 is Jim Henson's birthday. He was the creator of the

            Muppets. Ms.M

              Sept. 27, 2005

xToday Ms.Moline read to us. She read Thank You, Mr. Falker. It’s about a

little girl who didn’t know how to read until the fifth grade. I would

recommend this book.  This book is great for everyone because it tells a story about

someone’s actual life. This is called a memoir. Mackenzie

xToday we had an attendance graph. The question was what is your favorite

ice cream flavor? 4% liked chocolate, 4% liked vanilla, 4% liked rocky road,

            26% liked cookies-n-cream, 13% liked strawberry, 4% like coffee, and 54 liked

            something other than the choices.

xToday Ms. Moline gave us a super long work time in which we had

to do a reading survey, finish first drafts of our I Am From poems, draw a

visual image of a farm scene we listened to, and, if we still had time left, we

should NIBS.  Talk about hard work!   Madeline

                    Sept. 28

Today we learned everybody's birthday. Mrs. Moline says that in a group of 23 and over has

better than a 50-50 chance that someone will have the same birthday as someone else. It turns

out our class has 2 duplicates and 1 triplicates!      Antonia

Patrick ran in the cross country meet and got 4th place! He ran against 44

fifth and sixth graders! The track was 1 and a half miles long!  Patrick

                    Week of Sept. 19, 2005

We wrote our second poem called "an apology poem" using the style of

             William Carlos Williams.

We had our first checkout in library today. Ms. Moline wants us to

check out a book each week, even if we already have one in our

              desks.

Our "Names in Ordered Pairs" look great!

We started our I Am poems using our summer homework as starting

               ideas.

In Reading Workshop, we are talking about ways that Reading is Thinking

and things to think about as we read.

Starting now, students will help do the Newsworthy pages.

                 Sept. 22.

         There was a fundraiser today.

In music we listened to styles of music and talked about them.

Today in Mrs Donnelly's class we learned about place value in Thursday

         math.

               and played a game.

               both tropical.

                shapes and angles (like Picasso).

Today I played kickball and we won 4-0.
