A Special Friend
by M. S.

On a lovely day a girl named Shannon was playing jump rope when she saw something flash in the forest. She ran into the forest trying to find the flutter-n-flash that she saw. “Oh well,” she said. “I missed it.” When she turned around all she saw was the deep dark woods. “Oh, no!” she cried. “How will I ever get out of here?”

“I’ll help you!” said a little voice.

“Huh?” Shannon said in a questioning way.

“I’ll help you!” the tiny voice said again.

“EEk!” a bug!” Shannon cried.

“I’m not a bug!” the tiny creature said in a desperate little voice.

“W-w-ell, what are you?”

“I’m a fairy!” she said proudly. “A wood fairy. One of the smartest.”

“Well go away from me I don’t need a fairy telling me what to do!” So Shannon stomped into the woods.

“But I can help you!” The little voice yelled after her.

Shannon didn’t listen. She only yelled back. “What’s your name?”

“Margot!” The little voice yelled after her.

By now, Shannon was really lost. “Where am I?” Shannon cried.

“Right smack in the middle,” a little voice said.

“Not you again!” Shannon groaned.

“I thought you wanted to get out of here?” the little voice replied.

“Aye yie, yie.” Shannon said, “lead the way!” They walked and walked. Well one of them walked, and the other flew. Finally they were out. “I’m home! How can I ever repay you?”

“Just trust me,” Margot said. “I told you I could get you out!”

“Bye!” Shannon called. “I’ll visit you tomorrow.” And so Shannon and Margot were best friends forever!
