Support for Second Year Certificated Staff |

What is it?
Individuals in their second year of teaching will receive support through the Certificated Staff Mentoring Program. Each second year certificated staff who fills out the Year 2 plan will be allocated funds that can be used to meet their individual needs. The funds will be equally allocated and accessible for each second year certificated staff.
The second year teachers will be asked to develop a plan for the support they need and how they would like to use the funds.
the Year 2 staff member and their supervisor will determine how the Year 2 support will look. There is no coach at a building for Year 2 staff.
The following are some examples of how the funds can be used to support second year staff:
-
Pay for release time to observe other teachers
-
Cover the cost of a workshop
-
Pay grade level teams/dept chairs for providing support to second year teachers with curriculum planning
-
Support lesson study/critical friend models
-
Pay themselves on timesheet (curriculum rate) for work outside of contracted day to accomplish goals - such as Professional Certification
-
Professional memberships and journals
-
Pay a colleague on timesheet to continue mentoring support
How do I start?
Follow the steps below and communicate with your Principal/Supervisor. As a Year 2 Certificated Staff member, you need to take the first steps. If you have questions, contact your principal or Angela Anderson (x7329) for assistance. In these times of limited resources for all of us, please don't walk away from $500 support.
Step 1:
Establish goals for Year 2 Instructional Growth with principal or supervisor (you can use the same goals established in PGAP if appropriate).
Complete budget proposal sheet for use of second year support money (up to $500 for 06-07) and send to Angela Anderson @ ESC via inter-district mail.
-
Each budget item must be linked to Year 2 instructional growth plan goals. These can be adjusted with approval of principal/supervisor. If you already conferenced with your principal/supervisor regarding your goals, fill in the proposal sheet, share with your supervisor and get signature of agreed plan and actions.
