MIDDLE LEVEL SERVICES
Edmonds School District Middle School Options for
Identified Highly Capable Students 2008-2009
Key Points
  • No additional Cognitive Ability (challenge) Testing for 6th Graders.
Identified highly capable students can access developmentally appropriate services in middle school without additional district cognitive ability testing to qualify as highly capable. Their Individual Learning Profiles and 7th/8th grade building based placement assessments will be considered in determining the most appropriate services.
  • Specific placement in middle school Honors level courses will be determined by a student's ability based on common District assessment tools used by the buildings for placement.
  • The goal is to strengthen and provide a continuum of services offered to identified highly capable students in 7th and 8th grade across the District.
  • Courses or services for highly capable students will be designated Honors in all District 7th and 8th grades.
  • Information on 7th and 8th grade Honors offerings will be provided at the District Information Fair, January 10, 2009 @ Lynnwood High School from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. There will be a list available at the Highly Capable Booth and specific information at each 7th/8th grade building booth.
  • Comparable highly capable services are being strengthened and offered at each comprehensive middle school and K-8 school.
