MIDDLE LEVEL SERVICES

THE GIFTED MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM
AND 7-8 HONORS

  • The Gifted Middle School Program is for 7th and 8th grade students who have been identified as gifted or highly capable according to the following guidelines from the Washington State Academic Code and the Edmonds School Board Policy.  The Gifted Middle School Program is intended to provide support for students identified as requiring services beyond the normal learning environment to be successful.

  • 7-8TH Honors are advanced courses of studies designed to challenge students and are located at all comprehensive middle schools and K-8 schools.   High achieving students as well as highly capable students may attend.

    • Comparable Honors courses such as Advanced Math, Humanities (English/Social Studies), and Science are options.  Some will also have a foreign language component.
      • Placement In Honors
        • Specific placement in middle school Honors level courses will be determined by a student’s Individual Learning Profile.
        • By a student’s ability based on common district assessment tools used by the middle schools for placement.
        • In the spring, sixth graders are given a placement test in their classrooms by the middle school counselors.
        • The placement test is NOT the same test needed to enter the gifted program at Brier Terrace Middle.
        • Middle School Counselors will work with students to place them in appropriate classes.
