Course Description |
Purpose: Students will gain an understanding of the people, events, and ideas that have shaped our modern world. This course meets the senior social studies requirement for graduation. Content: Topics include: world and local wars, Russia's revolution and others, social change involving new manners, orals, art, music, intellectual changes, the Depression, the rise of the dictators and totalitarianism, the Holocaust, the atomic bomb and nuclear proliferation; the emergence of China and the Third World, and the Cold War, the fall of Communism and new world order. Learning Demonstrations: Students will cooperatively and individually analyze and discuss issues and complete oral presentations. Reading and essay writing are expected. A research project is required as well as tests and quizzes. |
