Course Description

Purpose: This semester class meets the senior social studies requirement for graduation. This course teaches students to analyze systems of international relations, apply them to current events and to make predictions about future events.

Content: International Relations provides students with a unique opportunity to learn about the world and to understand how the “global village' truly works. Students will learn about the world's key issues, conflicts, and cultures through a variety of media and experiences. Emphasis is placed on understanding our role and responsibility in the world and in helping to make a real difference in the future. This course offers students the opportunity to learn about the world by having the world brought to them “live”. International Relations will allow you to experience and see the world as it really is while at the same time challenge you in a fun atmosphere. I.R. is a “life-changing” experience.

Learning Demonstrations: Learning demonstrations include oral presentations, simulations essays, and a variety of quizzes and tests. In the culminating project each student chooses a current problem and writes a proposal from one nation to another. The proposal includes an analysis of the current problem and writes a proposal from one nation to another. The proposal includes an analysis of the current domestic and international problems for that country and assessment of the costs and benefits of the proposal for both sides if the response is yes a similar assessment for the negative response, and a justification of the proposal through precedent of international law.
