Course Description |
Purpose: The purposes of the course are to; (1) explore selected topics in the fields that include psychology, sociology, and the social sciences, (2) allow students to learn more about themselves, (3) gain a greater understanding of human behavior. This course can be used as a sixth subject for the IB diploma and will prepare students for the IB examination in psychology. In order to receive IBO credit on their transcript, the student is required to complete all IBO course requirements including IBO Psychology Experiment (Internal Assessment), and complete the Official IBO fee paid exam or non-fee teacher administered IB exam. Content: Topics of study include communication, individual development, adjustment, motivation and emotion, personality, social grouping and interaction, relaxation techniques, psychological disorders, and states of consciousness. Learning Demonstrations: Learning will be demonstrated in a variety of ways. Discussion, which will be done individually and in groups, is a key element. A research project that includes a written part and an oral presentation is required. Tests and quizzes will also be evaluative tools. |
