Course Description |
This two semester honors biology class is for those who desire additional experience in advanced biology topics or who wish credit in the International Baccalaureate Program. On completion of two consecutive years of Advanced Topics in Biology, an I.B. student will be able to take the higher level I.B. Biology exam. As these courses are designed around the IB curriculum, additional study will also prepare the student to take the Advanced Placement exam in Biology. Any student who would like the challenge of a rigorous biology course is welcome. Content: This one-year course will begin with a study of biochemistry covering topics including: structure and function of macromolecules Laboratory: An important component of this course will be in laboratory exercises. Students will be required to participate in labs and maintain a laboratory notebook. Students should be aware that dissection of preserved specimens will be a component of the anatomy and physiology component of this class. Students taking this course for IB distinction will be required to participate in the Group 4 Project, as well as sit for the IB exam. IB Biology Curriculum: Students pursing the IB Diploma will be required to take both courses in advanced topics junior and senior years to prepare for the higher level IB exam in their senior year. Additional requirements include the submission of a laboratory notebook for Internal Assessment at the end of their senior year and participation in the Group 4 Project second semester of their senior year. |
