Course Description

This course fulfills part of the science requirement. It prepares any student to think more scientifically; and to understand concepts and issues related to living things and their environment, with a particular focus on marine ecosystems. It is an advanced course for students who may pursue studies in the sciences, environmental and medical fields, and engineering.

Content: First semester begins with a study of the Puget Sound area and continues with oceanography, including such topics as dynamics of the ocean floor, currents, waves, tides, sea water chemistry, beaches and related environmental issues. Second semester addresses marine ecosystems, invertebrates, fish, sharks, and marine mammals.
