Course Description |
Mathematics is the language that is used in business, industry and science explorations. It is also used in many operations performed by calculators and computers. So, it's essential that all students acquire this language of mathematics. The intent of the course is to develop students' problem-solving capabilities and writing skills. Students will find interesting applications which enhance reasoning skills and increase levels of communication. The major topics covered are: operations on signed numbers, solutions to linear equations, exponential and fractional expressions, functions and graphs, radical expressions, polynomials and quadratic equations, graphing and analyzing data, using the distributive property, finding surface area, perimeter and volume of various geometric objects, ratios and proportions, probability and statistics, patterns and functions. The “Consumer Math” performance task will be administered in this class. Equipment needed: Notebook, graph paper, pencils, ruler, compass and scientific calculator. |
