Course Description

Integrated Mathematics 4 is a year-long course that replaces traditional Math Analysis. This class is intended for all students who have successfully completed Integrated Mathematics III and who want to continue the study of mathematics. Integrated Mathematics IV is strongly recommended for all students who plan to attend a college, university, vocational, or technical school. The skills and concepts learned in this course are valuable for students who will pursue a career that requires a good math background. Students who successfully complete this course will be prepared to take Calculus the following year. This course is the fourth year of a sequence of integrated, standards-based mathematics courses. The course represents a departure from a skills-based curriculum, in which skills are taught in isolation towards a problem-based curriculum, in which skills and concepts serve as tools for solving problems. Students will learn algebra and functions, geometry and trigonometry, statistics and probability, and discrete mathematics in real-world contexts. Units of study include: Rates of Change, Modeling motion, Logarithmic Functions & Data Models, Counting Models, Binomial Distributions & Statistical inference, Polynomial & Rational Functions, Functions & Symbolic Reasoning, and Space Geometry. Students are required to work in groups with their peers, using a variety of problem solving strategies, and to apply all concepts learned to new situations. In this course, students advance their abilities to communicate mathematically through reading and writing. Students will demonstrate learning through class participation, in-class investigations, daily homework, projects, quizzes, tests, and performance assessments.
