Course Description |
This course is the first year of a four-year sequence of integrated, standards-based mathematics courses. The course represents a departure from a skills-based curriculum, in which skills are taught in isolation, towards a problem-based curriculum in which skills and concepts serve as tools for solving problems. Students will learn algebra and functions, geometry, statistics and probability, and discrete mathematics in real-world contexts. Units of study include Patterns in Data, Patterns of Change, Linear Models, Graph Models, Patterns in Space and Visualization, Exponential Models, and Simulation Models. Students are required to work in groups with their peers, using a variety of problem solving strategies, and to apply all concepts learned to new situations. In this course, students advance their abilities to communicate mathematically through reading and writing. One of the Edmonds School District math anchor tasks will be administered in this course. |
