Course Description |
This course is recommended for those students with advanced skills in and deep conceptual understanding of mathematical processes. Students preparing for the AP Calculus AB exam should enroll in this course. The pace of this course is accelerated. This course is the fourth year in a sequence of integrated standards-based mathematics courses. The course represents a departure from a skills-based curriculum in which skills are taught in isolation and towards a problem-based curriculum in which skills and concepts serve as tools for solving problems. Students will learn mathematics in real world contexts. Units of study include: Rates of Change, Modeling Motion, Logarithmic Functions and Data Models, Counting Models, Binomial Distributions and Statistical Inference, Polynomial and Rational Functions, Functions and Symbolic Reasoning, and Space Geometry. S tudents are required to work in groups with their peers, using a variety of problem solving strategies, and to apply all concepts learned to new situations. In this course, students advance their abilities to communicate mathematically through reading and writing. Students will demonstrate learning through class participation, in-class investigations, daily homework, projects, quizzes, performance assessments, and written responses to complex problem situations. |
