Course Description |
Extended Integrated Mathematics C is the final year of a three-year sequence of curses designed to teach the concepts and skills of Integrated Mathematics I and Integrated Mathematics II at a slower pace than other mathematics courses. As such it is recommended only for students who need extra support to successfully meet the new graduation requirements (which include completion of Integrated Math II, passing the WASL exam, and completion of anchor tasks). Students enrolling in this course must take three years of Extended Integrated Mathematics (A, B and C) to meet graduation requirements. Students who wish to meet the graduation requirements in two years should take Integrated I and Integrated II Mathematics instead of this course. This is an integrated, standards-based mathematics course designed to prepare students for college, careers, and daily life in a contemporary society. The course represents a departure from a skills-based curriculum, in which skills are taught in isolation, towards a problem-based curriculum where skills and concepts serve as tools for solving problems. Students will learn algebra and functions (algebraic modeling), geometry and trigonometry, statistics and probability, and discrete mathematics in real world contexts. Units of study include Patterns of Association, Power Models, Network Optimization, Geometric Form and Function, and Patterns of Chance. In addition to these topics, students will also learn to read quantitative information, spend time reviewing basic math skills, and prepare for typical WASL exam questions. Students will demonstrate their learning through class participation, in-class investigations, homework, quizzes, tests, projects, and other performance-based assessments. |
