Course Description

This course is designed for those students who are not quite ready for the Integrated Math A class. This course will cover the same topics and material offered in the Integrated Math A class, only over two years. After completion of this course, students will take Integrated Math B. Technology in the form of calculators and computers are great tools, however, they can do only what the individual problem solver instructs them to do. All students should be able to: a) solve problems and real world questions; b) communicate and discuss mathematical ideas in groups; c) think critically and to be able to present a logical argument; d) use technology such as computers and calculators and e) connect mathematics to real-life applications. This course will help prepare students to meet those demands. Some of the major topics are understanding and working with: measurement and geometry, place value, fractions and decimals, percents, operations on real numbers including rounding, estimating and exponents, algebraic symbols and variables, solving equations, geometric figures and finding surface area, perimeter and volume and rations and proportions. The “Consumer Math” performance task will be administered in this class.
