Course Description |
Materials used will be more challenging and extensive, and discussion is lively and intense. Students in Honors English 9 build an appreciation of world literature through a variety of genre such as: short stories, poetry, essays, myths, at least five in-class novels, and plays including Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet . Students will also read in-depth works such as Antigone, A Separate Peace , and To Kill a Mockingbird. Students will also be expected to complete outside readings as a part of the course. Students will build their vocabulary skills and develop analytical reading, academic writing and research skills, critical thinking and presentation skills. Writing instruction will focus on the writing process, instruction in sentence fluency, and writing multi-paragraph essays to reflect, analyze, and persuade. Students will produce at least four full length essays using the complete writing process. |
