Course Description

Students in Honors English 10 explore their understanding of World Literature through a variety of genres such as: short stories, poetry, essays, in-class novels and plays. Students can expect an in - depth, faster-paced reading of texts and discussion of diverse literary works, and an expectation of advanced writing skills. Students will be reading titles from world literature and the classics such as: Les Miserables, Lord of the Flies, Things They Carried, Macbeth, Master Harold and the Boys, and The Odyssey. Students will also be expected to complete outside readings as a part of the course. Students will strengthen their vocabulary skills and continue to develop analytic reading, academic writing and research skills, critical thinking and presentation skills. Writing instruction will focus on the writing process, on-demand writing, instruction in the improvement of sentence fluency, and writing multi-paragraph essays. Forms include persuasive essay, expository writing, and literary analysis. Students will continue to prepare for the WASL as they produce at least four full-length essays using the writing process.
