Course Description

Students in English 10 continue to develop an understanding of World Literature through a variety of genres such as: short stories, poetry, essays, in-class novels and plays. Required district texts include Night, Things Fall Apart, and selections from A Multicultural Reader Collection Two. Students will also be expected to complete outside readings as a part of the course. Students will strengthen their vocabulary skills and continue to develop analytic reading, academic writing and research skills, critical thinking and presentation skills. Writing instruction will focus on the writing process, on-demand writing, instruction in the improvement of sentence fluency, and writing multi-paragraph essays. Forms include persuasive essay, expository writing, and literary analysis. Students will continue to prepare for the WASL as they produce at least four full-length essays using the writing process.
