Course Description

Purpose: Speech Communication is an English Elective credit. This course concentrates on multiple modes of oral communication which will enable a students to communicate more effectively both interpersonally and publicly. Effective communication is what enables us to succeed in our society. Through this course students will develop the skills to enhance the quality of their lives.

Content: Students are introduced to the elements of effective oral communication and to several modes of speaking, including: 1.) extemporaneous speaking, 2.) public speaking, 3.) oral interpretation, 4.) performing arts, 5.) persuasive speech, and 6.) elements of debate.

Learning Demonstrations: Learning will be demonstrated through projects, evaluations of written and oral speeches, media productions, class discussions, tests, and teacher observations.
