Elementary School Goals: 2007-2008 (Condensed Version)
District Goal 1: Create engaging learning experiences that
will provide all students the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills
necessary to experience post-secondary success, meet personal goals, and become
productive community members.
1a. Deepen our understanding
and confidence implementing Metacognition Strategies within the Optimum
Learning Model/Workshop Structure to increase student comprehension skills (Literary Text ~ Analyze/Interpret)
cross content areas.
1b. Transition what we are learning about
Metacognition Strategies and the Gradual Release of Learning by exploring
Writers’ Workshop through Mentor/Authors’ texts.

Create common grade level lessons which focus on collegial
scoring of Fall writing prompt and student performance trends.
·
Additional
practice assessing student thinking referring to reading comprehension GLE’s
and grade level rubrics, continuing to develop student samples as instructional
support.
·
Exploring reading like a writer and what authors do, using
mentor texts, developing writer’s notebooks and conferring with students with
conventions/grammar focus.
·
Primary and Intermediate Lab Classroom Writer’s Workshop Observations
and collegial conversations; grade level time to develop writing lessons. (Resource~Lucy Calkins units)
·
Book Study Discussion and Lesson Study Groups launching the
Writers’ Workshop: On Solid Ground
and/or About the Authors (primary), Study Driven (intermediate).
·
Continue to create on-line support resources: AR Folder-curriculum
maps, lessons, student work samples, assessment rubrics.
·
Parent/Community Involvement-Young Author’s
Celebration Event, Student Authors’ Publishing Center located in library;
increase Great Books program volunteers.
2. Enrich our understanding/implement math best
practices, focusing on increasing
proficiency
in mathematical number sense, measurement and problem solving.

Become familiar with district math professional development
initiatives.
·
Collegial grade level time provided for discussions focused
on math curriculum mapping, instruction strategies, implementation of
curriculum, and homework practices.
·
Continue to implement Daily Mental Math, grades 2-6, in
addition to 60 minutes daily math instruction.
Discuss WASL data & impact within math strands & DMM vision.
·
Look for opportunities to create lower class size for math
classes (i.e. parent volunteers)
·
Parent/Community Involvement-Parent letters sent
home regularly; provide parents homework instruction examples; at-home daily
math facts practice; train volunteer Math Tutors; after-school Math Enrichment
Class.
3. Deepen our understanding
and practices which support an increase of pro-social student behaviors with peers and toward
adults.
·
Develop building-wide Character Education themes/attributes
to foster increased pro-social behaviors with students and staff.
·
Continue to implement Love & Logic strategies focusing
on high needs students and parent teacher conferences.
·
Deepen understanding of pro-social curricula including using
building time for training:
Second Step
(K-2), Social Skills (1); Steps to Respect (3-4-5), Conflict Resolution (6).
·
Provide
alternative recess opportunities for students:
Intramurals, Shark Pools, Sharktasia, Mathtasia, Library/Study
Hall/Computer Lab.
·
Parent/Community Involvement-Love & Logic
parent education classes (K-1focus), increased volunteer support with alternative
recess activities. PTSA/new families welcome/outreach activities. Approved: June 26, 2007
