MEADOWDALE ELEMENTARY NEWS
Principal's Corner - Character Education is Thriving at Meadowdale

As in years past, Meadowdale’s “Jobs Program” is up and running, providing students with jobs in and around the school.  The purpose of this program is to give students positive experiences as leaders to our school.  When children assist to make Meadowdale the best place it can be, they feel ownership and pride about our collective goals and successes.  It also helps create responsible, caring, and dependable young people.

If you were able to attend the Eagle of the Month assembly last Friday, you would have noticed assembly greeters and flag raisers.  These are just a few of the several jobs students applied for and could have received.  Other jobs include office assistants, Kindergarten bus helpers, sports referees, and there are many more.  These students’ contributions are important elements in maintaining a safe and civil learning environment.

Last week we had the privilege of watching the Taproot Theater’s performance of “Talent Quest”.  This is a play that teaches how to recognize, refuse, and report bully behavior.  We also learned that bystanders play an important role.  There can be negative and positive bystanders.  Positive bystanders either support the target of bully behavior and/or report it to an adult.  When students know of this role and act on it, the likely hood of bullying incidents will decline and our learning environment will be further strengthened.

Lastly, on 11/2, we had our second Eagle of the Month assembly.  It is such a powerful avenue to recognize those students showing what it means and looks like to be respectful, responsible, and show excellence in their work.  It is also a great way to show other kids that if they make good choices, they someday could be an Eagle of the Month.

Sincerely,

Dan Davis
Principal
