Attendance Information

Students must have a written permission slip for all absences, tardies and early dismissals.

Attendance Secretary - Eva Siska- 425-431-4302

In the event your student is out of school please call the school each day your student is absent. If you receive the attendance message line please leave a message with your student’s name, the date of absence, reason for absence, and your name. When your student returns to school please send a note with them stating the dates of absences and reason. These notes are kept on file during your student’s enrollment at MMS.

Tardies

Before 8:00 go to your classroom and give note to teacher. After 8:00 go to the hole in the wall (attendance office) for admission slip and bring and excuse.

Early Dismissals

1. Bring note to school day of early dismissal.

2. Get early dismissal slip from attendance office.

3. Show early dismissal slip to teacher before you leave home.

During an absence students can best keep track of what is happening in their classes by contacting another student in each class (homework buddies are a great way to keep on top of school work). Homework hotline also offers parents and students the opportunity to get assigned homework from teachers, most often posted daily (great way to check up on kids when they say, “I never have any homework”). We also recommend that students continue reading their AR book.

Homework Requests

After three days of absences, parents are encouraged to telephone the attendance office after 8:30a.m. to request that homework be obtained and picked up the next day (fourth day). For the first three absences, our main concern is that our students regain their health. Upon returning to school, students are responsible for checking in with teachers in order to make up outstanding assignments.

Homework Hotline

Some Meadowdale Middle School teachers will be using the "Homework Hotline" feature of our district voicemail system. Homework and/or other information pertaining to an individual teacher's classes may be accessed by calling 425.431.7313 and the entering the teacher's voicemail number (listed on the reverse).

schoolnotes.com

Some Meadowdale Middle School teachers will be using the web based "schoolnotes.com" webpage system that allows parents access to homework and/or other information pertaining to an individual teacher's classes.

Directions:

  1. Go to the School Notes website: http://www.schoolnotes.com
  2. Enter the MMS Zip Code: 98037, then click on "go"
  3. Scroll down the page until you find the instructor/class
  4. Click on either the teacher name or class to access the information

Extenuating Circumstances

On occasion, extenuating circumstances beyond a student’s control may cause him/her to miss more than six days. At these times it is important for the student and parents to work closely with grade level administrators and/or counselors. Each situation will be handled on an individual basis.

Becca Bill Letters

Becca Bill (attendance) issues are managed at the district level and not in the schools. Linda Ellis (at the district) frequently generates absence reports and sends out letters to all students who accumulate two unexcused absences and then again with five unexcused absences. Informing the school of your student’s absence will help keep these letters from being generated. It is possible for a student to be absent (unexcused – no call to school) and a letter generated during this absence. Students have 48 hours to bring in a note to get an absence excused. If this occurs and the absences are excused, please accept our apologies for the letter and disregard the information. Attendance data sheets are available from the attendance office. MMS works to maintain consistency with WAC 180-40-010, which state that “all students will attend and be punctual at regularly scheduled classes unless officially excused.” The “Becca Bill” also requires the District to:

1. Schedule a conference with parents after the second unexcused absence/truancy
2. File a petition with the county court (may after the fifth unexcused absence/truancy in a month, must after the seventh absence/truancy in a month or the tenth unexcused absence/truancy in a year).
3. Report to the court additional absences that occur after the first referral
