Media students:

Today you will complete an in-class test to demonstrate your proficiency in

• PowerPoint© (especially with custom animations)
• Desktop publishing (layout & design)
• Graphic utilities (online services, Photoshop©, Image Tricks©, etc.)
• Time management
• File navigation

This is an individual assignment. Everyone must complete their own project and turn it in by the end of class.

Task: to create a video supplement (either for inclusion in the yearbook DVD and/or year-end video assembly). You will use PowerPoint© to create a single slide or series of slides that illustrates the topic with words, pictures and motion. The PowerPoint© file will be saved as a movie to be included in a compilation of all the other “Guess you had to be there…” PowerPoint© movies or as a portion of the video you are creating for the yrbk dvd. We’ll decide together after we view them.

Topic: Guess you had to be there… (Epicenter, Middle School, DHH, Sports, School Events, Ohana Ctr. etc.)

How: On PowerPoint slides use pictures, words, (quotes, WordArt, logos, etc.) and custom animation to create a video clip (we’ll save these as movies) that gives viewers a real sense of the events in the center that your “Had to be there” to experience. Make the slide animations really fun and exciting- my vision is only a slide or two- but there is a ton of stuff happening on the slide. A sequence of complex animations

IDEAS:

1. Background appears
2. Title comes in (zoom, unfold, etc.)
3. Several pictures come in a variety of ways and get placed in the corners, around the perimeter, checkerbox, etc.
4. Text alternates with the pictures. Text could be: quotes from students, lists of events, field trips, names of teachers, projects, famous quotes, etc.

Enhance with:

• Text or graphics disappearing or fading/changing color after action
• COBs (cut out backgrounds)
• Pictures in autoshapes, wordart, etc.
• Borders, shadows, arrows or lines that point to things on the pictures or circles drawn ontop of pictures to look like a pen is circling something

HOW TO DO IT: Create a new PowerPoint© project and title it: centername.ppt where “center” is your assigned class <sports or events for Amia, Brian, Craig and Kai) and ”name” is your own name. Save the file in the Movies folder on the local computer. The project will begin like the Truth or Lie project for tech class. You could do a GREAT job with just one slide- just have tons of custom animation. Be sure the animations are set to occur “after previous” and not on mouse click. If you do have multiple slides, set the type of transitions you would like between your slides.

*Do not insert any sound- we’ll do this when we combine the movies together.

HOW TO FINISH: Save your PowerPoint© project a final time. Then if finished, do a “File>Make Movie… click on options and make the following changes:

Check the same things as in this image. Yes, I know I said it was due at the end of class, but as a wrote up this assignment description I realize there is no way this could be a great project in just 40 minutes. So, be prepared to share what you have from your computer up on the projector, and then we’ll continue working on Monday and finish up then.
