During this year-long elective students
gain experience in desktop publishing, digital photography, videography, graphic
and video editing and broadcast journalism. The first trimester will focus
on acquiring necessary skills to create projects for the Madrona Community.
During the second and third trimester students will apply their skills to
project-oriented assignments to produce the Madrona Morning Broadcast, the
print and DVD versions of Madrona's yearbook, and year-end movie features
for 8th grade graduation and the end-of-year, all-school assembly. A video
course overview can be viewed here: http://www.teachertube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=38a6cbdd4e32c50cf7ee&msg=You%20must%20be%20logged%20in%20to%20use%20the%20Feature%20Video%20request!
Goals: Learn techniques and skills to produce final
products such as:
Materials:
In addition to the standard standard school supplies
including an agenda, and USB 'jump drive' or 'flash memory, all media students
will need a mini dv cassette tape. Although not required, it is hoped that
students who have access to special equipment and supplies will be able to
utilize them for this class. (i.e.: digital camera, video camera, video recorder,
etc. ) Digital cameras, microphones, tripods, etc. are available for checkout
during school hours.
Responsibility/Code of Conduct: Media students have the privilege of using a wide variety of (expensive) equipment including digital cameras (still and video), wireless mics and headsets, wireless transmitters, mixers, portable lighting, scanners, music keyboard and of course, computers. Students will also be expected to leave class to get footage of events, obtain information, schedule interviews, etc. This unique responsiblity and freedom should not be taken advantage of, but rather appreciated and seen as an opportunity to create fabulous products that will be enjoyed by parents, staff and students now and in the years to come.
