PFT Minutes for October 2007

LWE PFT Board Meeting 10/18/07

In attendance: Emily Caley Moore, Chris Lindblom, Mary Johann, Molly O’Brien, Marla Little, Diane Nelson, Laura Barnes-Johnson, Caroline Parks, Steve VandeGriend.

Old Business:

Review Minutes ( Tracy) – Mary Johann moves we approve the minutes. Diane Nelson seconds, motion passed.

Elliott Bay Catalog Fundraiser, status (Laura).

Elliot Bay deposit is about $17,000. Deposit was done Friday, 10/12 and Tuesday, 10/23 order was picked up. We will fax final orders this week.

The school brought in around $800 on the entertainment books so far, PFT makes 50%. We will also have available for the General meeting tonight and would like to have out for conferences. Books are $20 each.

T-shirt Sales Status (Mary) – the shirts are printing this week, should have them in next week. We ordered a few extra. Once they come in Mary will need 2 or 3 people to help at her house to sort and bag. Probably take about 2 hours.

Budget Report (Laura/Molly)

Entertainment book sales – to send home with each student or not? We reviewed the budget Molly has typed up. We will review the budget further.

Mary thinks we should consider adding money for assemblies. Last year we had a budget for assemblies that we never actually used. $2,000 would help with this year. The high school drama may be able to do something. Emily has lots of options for assemblies. Lots of performances (drama, music, band, book sales, etc.) perhaps we could set up a table to sell the Entertainment books at the assembly.

PFT needs to know the amount $ needed for the school to spend on hand held radios? 6 th grade camp student scholarships?

New – playground equipment? Costs to repair bridge, sliding hand held toy repairs. Need more 4 square’s painted.

Swim parties came in under budget. This year only available days are Saturday’s and Sunday’s. Will research, perhaps try one.

Park foundation

Garden Club – add $50 back in. Home Depot may be able to help but just need advance notice. (Mulch).

Escript/Safeway. Similar to the Albertson’s program and $ for school of your choice. Would like to promote this.

Laura will coordinate the Box Tops for Education. Caroline Parks said she would be happy to help with the Campbell Soup labels. Marla will work with her. Perhaps put in newsletter that we need the UPC on the Campbell’s and keep an eye on the expiration on the box tops.

New Business

Partnership programs with give2network.com and HR Block (Mary)

Give2network.com which is like a Yahoo toolbar that you can search on. If a person uses it, we can put announcements on the toolbar. Someone has designated our school to receive funds.

H&R Block – our school can get $25 for new clients. We need to get the fliers from H&R Block to get out to our students.

Fun Run – want to promote it better this year. Send out envelopes further in advance and utilize the school announcements.

Movie night plans (Molly) – next month. Emily will help run this. Need movie suggestions.

Other information for discussion (Chris or Emily)

Simple Initiative Ballott - changes from 2/3 to a simple majority (50% + 1) needed to pass. Would like to have parents help with phone bank. Need about 8 people to volunteer on Sunday (during Seahawks) game. There is script, snacks, drinks, etc… very easy to do. The people you call are pro active on education items in the past elections.

Spirit days and themes (Laura and Carolyn)

Laura and Caroline will coordinate Spirit Day looking at the school calendar.

Carolyn’s ideas to do with movie night.

* Mystery box, 5 boxes in a row get a raffle, if don‘t get them right a small gift.

* White elephant swap meet.

* Potluck super supper. Most Campbells labels used and share recipes.

* All sport/good sport day (similar to field day)

* Masquerade around early spring, before summer. Relates to Mardi Gras.

* Record attempt (bunny hop, hokey pokey, etc.)

Steveoutdoor education, appreciates PFT’s help funding. This year there will be more of a need. He has 2 kids in his room that will need help. It is $85 per child. There is a payment plan available; we can ask what the parents can pay? Then have the kids work off the scholarship during a recess (weeding, etc.) where an hour of work time = @ $10. Nancy Grant coordinated it in the past.

6 th graders learn environmental science at Islandwood camp on Bainbridgenow called outdoor ed. as opposed to camp.
