Online Educational Resources
The Instructional Media Department supplies online educational resources for use by the students and staff of the Edmonds School District. Use the links below to access our online resources.
If you need passwords or other help, please ask your school's Library Media Specialist.
  • Net Trekker  provides fast and easy access to more than 180,000 high quality, pre-screened, and educationally relevant K-12 websites.

  • ProQuest K-12 provides access to magazine and newspaper articles, photographs, maps, and news transcripts.
For home use or with student login: Go to ProQuest K-12.
For school use: Go to eLibrary Elementary  (designed for elementary students) or
eLibrary (more appropriate for students in grades 5-12). These should not ask for a user name or password at school.
ProQuest (different configurations make it appropriate for elementary through high school students, as well as for staff) may ask for a user name and password, even at school. If it does, it is asking for a teacher login. If you do not have access to that login, please use ProQuest K-12.

  • CultureGrams provides historical, geographical and cultural information on countries of the world (World Edition and Kids Edition) and states in the United States (States Edition).
Change from one edition to another by clicking on an edition name in the upper right-hand corner.

  • World Book Online is an encyclopedia that is familiar to many in its print form. The online format allows for easier searching and includes connections to appropriate, pre-viewed Internet sites.

  • Britannica Online
Britannica Online is actually three encyclopedias in one: Encyclopedia Britannica  (for high school students), Compton's Encyclopedia (for middle school students), and Britannica Elementary Encyclopedia (for elementary students).
Britannica Online also includes Annals of American History Online  (primary source material on American history) and World Data Analyst Online  (statistical comparisons of countries from around the world).

  • ABC-Clio  provides students with four social studies resources. American History and United States at War are specialized encyclopedias of American history. World History: Ancient and Medieval Eras and World History: The Modern Era are specialized encyclopedias of World history. All four provide access to primary source documents, biographies, timelines, and much more. They are primarily intended for students in grades 6-12, but are available to all students and staff.
Change from one to the other using a drop down menu in the upper right-hand corner.

  • Grolier Online provides students in grades 7 through 12 with access to The New Book of Popular Science (for easy to understand science information) and Lands and Peoples (for information about countries and cultures).
Click on the Grolier Online icon in the upper left-hand corner to switch between the two resources.

  • Facts.com provides high school students with access to Issues and Controversies (for in-depth information about current issues) and Today's Science (for issues in science).
In addition, if you have a library card from the Sno-Isle Library System, you have access to many more online resources, as well as the ability to search for and reserve library books.
