Teachers:
If you come across this screen when you are searching for instructionally
valid Internet sites to include in your curriculum, it means that
the site is being blocked by our filter. Although most blocked sites
are being filtered correctly, in accordance with our approved filtering
levels, there are occasions when a site may be mistakenly blocked.
If you believe that is the case and you want a site to be available
for use in your classroom, fill out an IM-140 (available in your school
office) and send it to the IMD.
Filtering requests will be processed in 10 to 15 working days.
While awaiting a resolution to your filtering request, the District's
online resources may help. These valuable and educational online
resources offer our students and staff safe searching and reputable
sources. Any needed passwords and training are available from your
Library Media Specialist. |
The Edmonds School District believes that when Internet
filtering is done well it both protects our students and allows access
to instructional resources that enrich the curriculum.
Our three filtering levels take into account the instructional and
developmental needs of all our students.
At our elementary and K-8 schools, the Internet is filtered
in a way that blocks web sites that are inappropriate for our
younger students.
As our students mature, and as their research needs increase,
the filtering level is less restrictive. Middle schools have broader
access to sites on the Internet than elementary schools do, with
sites that support their curriculum available for student and
staff use.
The research and resource needs of high school students and
staff demand even greater access to Internet sites than that available
at the middle school level. Our filtering makes that available,
while still blocking sites that are inappropriate for any students
or staff members.
While our Internet filter has been very effective at blocking inappropriate
sites, we know that there is no perfect filter. There will always
be some instructionally valid sites that are inadvertently blocked
and some inappropriate sites that need to be added to our filter.
For that reason, we continue to try to refine our filtering levels.
Finding the balance between instruction and student safety is a paramount
responsibility of our District.
