Drafting/Architectural/CAD 1-2

Credit: 1.0 (.25 math or The Arts credit available) 4 college credits available through Tech Prep program

Grade Level:
9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisites: Keyboarding recommended.

Purpose: Student will be taught the techniques and methods of Drafting as a universal language used to convey thoughts and ideas via drawings and technical plans. Manual (board) drafting and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) are available. This course is taught using professional-industry standards of line work, layout, lettering, and language. Students will also learn how and when to properly use and maintain the various tools. This course is aligned with the Edmonds School District Frameworks and the State's Essential Academic Learning Requirements.

General Content: 1st semester includes 3-view, 2D mechanical/machine technical drawing, descriptive geometry, isometric, 3D, and sectional view drawing. 2nd semester consists of understanding and applying the overlay process of developing a set of plans. This results in the student drawing a complete set of house plans as required for a building permit along with a scale model and/or a perspective rendering. An overview of the construction process and methods are also presented.

Learning Demonstrations: The student will maintain a portfolio of completed and critiqued drawings, demonstrate skills through written and oral presentations, and complete a set of plans which will be evaluated by industry professionals.

Architectural /Civil/Structural Drafting/CAD 3-4

Credit: 1.0 (.25 Math or The Arts credit available) 10 college credits available through Tech Prep program)

Grade Level: 10, 11, 12

Prerequisites: Drafting/Architectural/CAD 1-2, Geometry preferred
Purpose: Students will continue to develop an understanding of their specialized field of interest and begin to chart a course for future education and employment. Teachings range from an introduction to design and the basics of structural principles and methods of application. This course is aligned with the Edmonds School District Frameworks and the state's Essential Academic Learning Requirements.

General Content: This course covers the various phases of the design and construction process, including site analysis involving civil engineering, architectural programming, design, drafting, and structural design and analysis. Basic geometry and algebraic equations will be applied to various project situations. Students will have an opportunity to build models, illustrate and render projects using both board and computer aided drafting (CAD). Further achievement expectations, professional standards and goals are discussed.

Learning Demonstrations: Assessment is based on implementation of skills learned in beginning drafting. Students will begin to develop a portfolio including a resume and samples of their work.

Architectural/Civil/Structural Drafting/CAD 5-6 and 7-8

Credits: 2.0 (.5 Math or The Arts credit available) Honors Credit

Grade Level:
11, 12

Prerequisites:
Drafting 1-2 Architectural/CAD 1-2 and Architectural Civil/Structural Drafting/CAD 3-4

Purpose:
In this two-period, full-year course, students discuss, explore and make plans for future education and employment. Teachings range from design and construction building codes and regulations, to vocabulary, history and implementation of structural technology including materials and methods of application.

General Content: Projects vary depending on each student's interest. Classroom atmosphere simulates a "real world" office environment in which projects are programmed, designed, presented, critiqued, revised, and developed into plans for construction, production, and presentation. Professional standards and educational goals are expected of all students. This course is aligned with the Edmonds School District Frameworks and the state's Essential Academic Learning Requirements.
