Make up Days

January 31, 2007

Dear Edmonds School District Families,

The purpose of this letter is to share with you the schedule for our six make-up days.  This was developed with a great deal of parent, staff, and student input and approved by our Board of Directors at its special meeting on January 30, 2007.   It is still winter and while we have enjoyed some days of sunshine and warmer temperatures lately, we still have to be mindful that we could have more days to deal with.  We want to get this schedule out so everyone can plan accordingly; it also includes a plan if we do have more school closures.  Thank you for your understanding and persistence with this amazing weather and the various impacts we have all experienced.

Make-Up Schedule for the Six Days:

  • Tuesday, February 20

  • Friday, March 16 (District-wide Early Release; March 15 reverts to a full day for elementary schools)

  • Friday, May 11

  • Friday, May 25

  • Wednesday, June 20 reverts to a full day

  • Thursday, June 21

  • Friday, June 22 (District-wide Early Release; if no other make-up days are needed.)

  • If we have any more school make-up days, they will simply be added to the end of the year.

  • Teachers will work June 25, 26, and 27 for professional development unless they revert to student make-up days.

We appreciate everyone who shared their thoughts about how best to make up these days.  Please understand that any set of make-up days will work for some and not for others.  There was tremendous effort given to address, as best as possible, the many factors that came into account when determining the school calendar.  Information about the process and considerations used in determining which days to make up can be found at http://www.edmonds.wednet.edu/parents/0607calendar.cfm.

There may be some families that have special commitments already planned during these make-up days; we encourage any parents to work with their classroom teacher and principal as best as possible to address these as pre-arranged absences.  Thanks again to everyone for your patience and flexibility with this winter and the need to revise our school calendar.

Sincerely,

Nick J. Brossoit, Ed.D.

Superintendent
